Loyalty Levels are 0!
For the second time less than a year I’ve jumped ship to a different telco provider while keeping my old number. Usually, I’m a stickler for brand loyalty (which has lead to some hilarious hunts for Gula Prai) and I even stuck with Maxis for nearly 7 years, but nowadays telco companies just don’t inspire much warm fuzz feelings. I wonder why?
I’m now using the Digi Smartplan sans contract, which so far looks pretty good - if you know of a better plan, do tell me, would be unhesitant to hop again. For now though, I’m really looking forward to being able to foursquare on location. No more staling around McD’s to checkin.
A word on product loyalty
In answer to my earlier question: “why telco companies don’t inspire much warm fuzz feelings?” I think it’s because we tend to see telephonic and web-based communication as a right, and these telco companies are seen as the big bad douchebags that administer a toll. As such, using a different telco brand is as easy a decision as using a cheaper highway. The only question that comes to mind is “price aside, is it as convenient?”
Plus, there’s no status to be gained from choosing one telco over the other. Unlike, say in the case of apparel brands. E.g. Real hipsters use Converse AllStar, not Bata North Star. </points nose at 60 degree angle>.
The facet of brand loyalty that may work for the telcos is the our fervent, insane, and unreasonable need to support one group over the other. Like for football teams. Or in my case Prai Sugar.
Lesson of the day: you just can’t buy Giant or Tesco brand sugar just because it’s “cheap”, “available”, or “the only sane choice”. Where are your principles damnit?
