Sugar, oh Honey Honey
Happy New Year, and to celebrate the new decade, sugar prices have gone up by 20 cents/kg. To be fair, the Gov is currently subsidizing sugar by 80 cents/kg, which amounts to RM1.008bil a year. So dial down on the sugar, ya’ damn sweet-tooths.
In other carb related news, wheat flour prices have also increased, but with a much larger leap - from RM1.80 to RM2.70 per kilo. The change is immediately noticeable from that, with the loaf of bread I bought today being an unpleasant surprise.
Never one to chalk it up to plain economics, I suspect it’s an EVIL GOVERNMENT CONSPIRACY. True story. You see, the price increases affect carbohydrate based products, so by cutting down on that, people would effectively force themselves to diet. And there you have it - the Health Ministry’s round about way of making Malaysians healthier. Devious bastards.
